status report

  • Sky: slowly changing from a lovely salmon-pink to a soft baby blue, wispy clouds of greyish-pink gracing its pristine depths
  • Birds: singing their songs of joyous greeting to the bright spring morning
  • Trees: limbs outstretched and ready to receive the sun's grace
  • Grass: bedewed and sparkling
  • Me: rather ticked at the poetry of it all, as it is 5:45AM and I cannot go back to sleep because I forgot to take my pills last night

I'm looking for the summary of the movie Troy that has the lines I use in my icon "But baby, they're smarter than you." Cannot find it. It's somewhere on lj. I linked to it once. This is most frustrating.

Any ideas? I seem to remember something about "occupation girl" or something like that, but have been unable to figure out the user name.

Too busy to make a sandwich out of my life today

Volunteered at Daniel's class this morning, and wow is there a huge variety of reading levels in there, from the kids who laboriously sound out "b-o-n-j-o-u-r" to the ones who rattle off "bonjour dit la mouche et la grenouille dit bonj-slrp!" and giggle*. Huge variety of social skills, too. From the ones who just stared at me with big eyes to the one who ran over, plopped down beside me, grinned and said, "And you must be Daniel's mom! Pleased to meet you-" stuck out his hand, "My name's Zachery!"

Brought Justin home, had lunch, tidied a bit, then made pumpkin and rhubarb pies (2 and 1, respectively).

Pies ready soon, then pick up Daniel from bus stop, then stop by Guy's to drop off a pie. Because everybody needs pies.

Gotta go!

* "Hello said the fly, and the frog said hell-slrp!"

Well, now, that's interesting

Senate Defies Bush, Approves Highway Bill
Which is interesting to me chiefly because

In addition to granting money to states to repair and build roads and bridges, the bill provides more than $50 billion for public transit, funds recreational road programs and promotes highway safety.

and

Sen. Maria Cantwell (news, bio, voting record), D-Wash., won approval of an amendment that would require the
Environmental Protection Agency to update fuel economy testing to reflect real-life driving conditions. Gas mileage stickers on new cars now inflate true fuel economy performance by 10 percent to 30 percent.

Huh.

Belinda Stronach stuns political observers, moves to Liberals, joins cabinet

Yeah, so some highlights are:

OTTAWA (CP) - The defeat of Paul Martin's Liberal government became less likely Tuesday with the stunning defection of a high-profile Tory MP to the Liberal cabinet. Martin sat beside a smiling Belinda Stronach at a surprise news conference and introduced the rookie parliamentarian as his new human resources minister.

Stronach's departure is a blow to the Tories on several levels - starting with a confidence vote set for Thursday in the House of Commons.

...

In one fell swoop the new Conservative party lost one of its founding members, its trade critic, its strongest left-leaning voice, a leadership aspirant, and a young, female Ontario MP with romantic ties to the party's deputy leader Peter MacKay.

Well. I don't have a thoughtful, considered opinion on What This All Means, and whether it's good or bad for the Liberals, Conservatives, or Canada, and whether she's a principled believer in The Good of the Country or an opportunistic camera-hogging spoiled little princess, but I will say this: it's definitely been an entertaining day in Canadian politics.

And really, how often can you say that?
