busy bee

Things done today:

  • picked up my wallet; would lose my own head if it wasn't nailed on

  • practiced new pattern with kids

  • helped kids carve two pumpkins

  • washed & started to dry seeds

  • letter to LSUC defining areas of law I'm interested in, since apparently "everything, I'd just like a job, thanks" is not specific enough ;)

  • wrote fic

  • mmm, fajitas for lunch

  • The Secret Garden movie version is not as altered as A Little Princess; things happen sooner than in the book, but at least Mary's parents aren't discovered to actually still be alive... so far

  • looked over Canadian Doll catalogue with Justin, who says he wants one

  • added up Scouts Popcorn sales

  • taste tested limp lettuce, semi-brown banana and left-out-all-night sliced apple with different spices

  • answered question of "Why did Henry Hudson want to find a Northwest Passage to India so badly?" with "because non-refrigerated food still tastes pretty good if you add spices"

  • started to read a real book! Not-a-fic! gasp!

  • helped boys with math, Spanish and music

  • finished history goal for the week

  • practiced new choir songs

  • didn't do any laundry, as the boys just earned themselves a month's worth of it, leaving me free free free

  • reminded the boys to fold & put away three baskets

  • ...of laundry; just folding baskets would be weird

  • got a superhigh score on Word Challenge

  • got kids ready for Halloween party at dojang

  • still have to pick up Daniel's group's order forms tonight

  • would like to go to bed instead

Time flies...

  • Asterix turned fifty this week. I learned to read with Asterix. I still remember the thrill of realizing that all of a sudden the letters I used to laboriously string together had become words.

Daniel just finished reading the first branch of the Mabinogion, Evangeline Walton version.

  • TMI alert: Justin is very interested in what happens when you pop a zit. Ew. He's only nine; I didn't think we'd have to deal with this for a few more years, but kids who are heavier than the norm reach puberty earlier than the norm. Oh goody.

  • "Oh no!" says Daniel, sounded very distressed. He has just realized that one of the packages of Halloween treats we bought is from Nestle. Nestle uses child labour. He learned about it in Social Activism Class. We have agreed to take back the Nestle box and buy a more ethical box.

  • Wasn't it just last year that our priority when buying Halloween candy was "Don't buy stuff that might be a choking hazard for the baby"?
