I just felt that the line "Is this because I'm a lesbian" was pasted on. There was no background, no exploration, no reason for her to say it, no possibility of it going anywhere - after all, what could Arthur say? "Yes, Serena, I'm making all this hot-cold thing as an excuse, it's purely because you're a lesbian, there, I've said it, now please don't sue us?"
