Actually, it started with the Crystal Gamgee wank. (She would take photos of the Ring Boys and then run them through Photoshop and claim she "drew" them.) She had a picture of Billy Boyd on her bed, but his head was totally pasted on, and not in a good way, in Photoshop.
Someone said, in the comments, that he was all, "My hed is pastede on yay!" and it kind of took off.
Aah, mystery explained. I never saw the original - I only saw all of the antennae ones, chuckled, and wondered how that particular expression sprang to somebody's mind from the pictures.

The antennae icons were my application of "pastede on yay" to
