A little help?

I just read this Star Trek fic. It's great. Lovely. Stunning, even. I love it. The problem is... I don't get the last part. And as I'm generally not a total idiot, I would assume it's because the author is being overly cryptic, but she's got about a hundred comments already and a lot of them particularly praise the last bit. So unless there's some kind of Emperor's New Lack of Clothing thing going on here, I'm thinking it's something pretty obvious that I am for some reason totally clueless about.

Can anybody help?

I think maybe he went to visit his human grandmother? I'm not entirely sure.

I reread - it mentions a "surviving aunt on Earth," so presumably that's who he's visiting. Not sure why it's so OMG that he visits a stranger related by blood, but ymmv.

OK, so I'm not the only one who doesn't get the OMGBRILLIANTness, then. See, yeah, I was thinking maybe it was Amanda from the old timeline but that wouldn't make sense because she'd been dead for years over there and Spock couldn't have brought her to the new timeline, and the adopted daughter could be... Spock's adopted daughter? No, that doesn't work. Maybe a relative? Who? What? I could think of possibilities to fill in the blanks, but none thrust themselves forward as AHA!! things, you know?

Thank you!

I admit, I only skimmed, but I think it has to do with the recurring theme of previously rejecting his human side, not visiting Earth, not feeling accepted by him human classmates... and visiting Earth anyway because his aunt, even though he doesn't really know her at all, is the only familial connection he has left to his mother. Accepting, perhaps at last, his human side.

*sigh* "…his human classmates…"

Yeah, that makes a certain amount of sense... it doesn't feel OMFFG!-like, though. And I don't get why the daughter being adopted and Spock being half-Vulcan are important enough to slip in there.

I like your explanation, though. Thanks!

I have nothing to say because I'm always, always, ALWAYS the one in this boat: fic generates hundreds of compliments and is beautiful and lyrical and either a) I hated it or b) I feel like an idiot because whatever cryptic, lyrical awesomeness it had, in the end I completely and totally Did. Not. Get. It.

Yup, been there, done that, doing that. ;-)

LOL!!!

Thank you for joining me here - or at least letting me know that Did.Not.Get.It.land holds a population of more than just me ;)
