Random burbles:

  • Another mostly outside walking day. We walked to my mother's house and back, stopping by Dairy Queen and the used bookstore on the way there, and the library and optometrist on the way back. It's funny how Justin is such a joy to be with outside of our home. He's interesting and interested and funny and just wonderful. At home all day? Feh. Notsomuch with the joy thing.

  • Justin got a present today: boys' ballet gear from my mom. Funky black stuff. He was in seventh heaven, and Daniel was suitably impressed. He looks very cute; black is quite slimming :)

  • Chris is on call tonight, so that's an automatic movie night for the rest of us. Tonight's dining entertainment was Fantasia 2000.

  • Right before bed we worked a bit on our diorama. We've pretty much built the whole frame (it's an old cereal box) and today I wanted us to start on the stained glass windows for the church part of the diorama (the Priests Who Pray for All). So I asked Daniel to tell me what he'd like for his stained glass.

"A puppy," he said. "And a baby cobra."

"Well, this is supposed to be stained glass for a church. They have church things."

"OK, a zebra. And a llama."

"Daniel, stained glass windows have to show things about God or Jesus or the Bible."

"But God made baby cobras and zebras and llamas. So it is about God."

::internal grumble of 'I hate when the kid makes more sense than the real world does'::

I finally got the point across, but had to read to them from our Children's Treasury of Bible Stories to do so. My kids are such heathens. Daniel picked out a few scenes from the book: the dove after the Flood, the angel at the gates of Eden, the birth of Jesus, etc.

Justin, when asked what he'd like on his windows, diligently paged through the Bible Stories looking for just the right scene. Finally found it: the "bread loaves and fish" story. Why, oh why, am I not surprised. I'll try to get him to pick out more scenes tomorrow, but something tells me they'll all be food-related. Esther's banquet for her king, the feast for the prodigal son, and the Last Supper should round it out nicely.
