Yesterday, Chris shut the water down in our house so he could fix a faucet. Daniel went to the washroom, and came back very upset.

"Well. Laura had her bike stolen. And Nicole had her bike stolen. And-" and he proceeded to list a few other calamities that had happened in the last few days. "And now it comes to this: our toilet is broken!"

Daniel went out yesterday during Justin's nap, then came back to tell me he was going to Ricardo's house.

"And his mom says I can stay as long as I like. But, whatever you do, come get me before Justin wakes up, OK? Otherwise he might get scared that I'm not there."

This morning we were rather chilly at the bus stop. Daniel complained about that, then commented, "At least it's not so cold in our house."

"I dunno, Daniel, our house was pretty cold this morning."

"Why?"

"Because we left the windows open last night. We're going to have to start remembering to close them before we go to bed."

He grinned. "But what about what we have to pay for sleeping with the window shut?"

(Took me a moment to figure out his referece: in Les Miserables, there's a line from a dishonest innkeeper, who brags, "Here a little nip, there a little cut/ Ten percent for sleeping with the window shut.")

BTW: I'm back at school! Back to the law library, which has gone from one inadequate washroom on the second floor to no washrooms anywhere. You have to exit the library and go down a floor in the law building. To get to one stall. Feh.

And guess who's back! Auntie Ho. What a great time to have no washrooms available.
