Or not. As per usual on my "sleeping in" mornings, I got woken up by something (namely, Chris' Palm Pilot) and couldn't go back to sleep. 'Sokay, though. I slept till 8am, which is pretty good. A solid 7.5 hours is not bad. And now I get geek-time till my scheduled "wake-up" time of 10am.

So I'll probably use it to work on our family website, because (drum roll...) Chris actually got the ftp thingy to work!! I'm so excited!!

Funny, his undergraduate degree is in Life Sciences, and mine's in Computing Science (and History), and yet he's so much better at all this techie stuff. Mainly because he's actually interested in it. I doggedly got through four years of Computing Science classes cleverly avoiding anything and everything that had to do with the day-to-day maintenance of these bloody machines, with the end result being, I can tell you a lot about artificial intelligence, graphics and robotics, and a bunch of stuff like that... but I can't make my printer work without Chris.

I'm like those people who graduate from high school knowing all about history and geography and biology, but can't actually read.

Watched the last twenty minutes of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan last night. Probably my favourite Star Trek movie of all time. I should probably find it disturbing that I can recite the entire movie by heart, but strangely, I don't.

And it always makes me want to read Moby Dick. I want to read the original, To the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee line, which Ricardo Montalban recites so beautifully. Someday I suppose I should get off my duff and actually do so :)

The other thing this movie always makes me think of is DeForest Kelley. Shortly after he died, I was at a party and a friend of mine said, "Oh, did you hear that DeForest Kelley died yesterday?"

"Yeah, I heard."

There was a small, sad moment of silent respect for the man. Then my friend said, "He's dead, Jim," and we all cracked up. And I thought, wow, probably in the last few days just about every Trekkie named Jim around the world has heard that line from their friends. Seems an odd tribute to end a man's life, but there it was. And it tickled me that it was quite likely I was the only female Jim to have heard that :)

After Wrath of Khan, we started to watch The Princess Bride. Another amazing movie that I can recite along with the action.

Hm... wonder if the boys are old enough to appreciate it? I know they wouldn't get most of the adult humour references, (eg "You've committed one of the Classic Blunders! The first is never get involved in a land war in Asia...") but I think they'd get a kick out of the swordfight and Rodents of Unusual Size and all that.
