Random burblings
Jan. 23rd, 2004 09:03 pmJustin (sort of) read his first word yesterday. On the bus, he asked me what the word on the red button said.
"What's the first letter?"
"Sss."
OK, he was using the sounds instead of letters, but what the heck, it's the sound that's important anyway. "What's the second letter?"
"T," (again, the sound)
"Third letter?"
"Oh."
"Last letter?"
"Um... D?"
"No, P. So you have these sounds: Sss, t, oh, p."
"Um... stop!"
Might not sound that impressive, but as I recall, while Daniel knew the names of all the letters by age two, it took him forever to connect the sounds to the letters, and another eon to be able to string sounds together to decipher a word. Funny that while Justin still doesn't even know the names of all the letters, he's apparently able to connect letters to sounds to words far more easily than Daniel could.

Justin figures something else out: "Between. That means that it's beside two things at the same time."

Dropping Chris off at work (on call) tomorrow morning, then going to my mom's. She'll be in treatment next week, and thus unavailable for their birthday party, so she's going to give them a mini-party tomorrow. Should be nice.
