PSA for Canadians *
Feb. 4th, 2005 04:42 pmSo, the same-sex marriage bill (C-38) is currently in the House. Since the current make-up of Parliament is
Liberal 133 (43.2%)
Conservative 99 (32.1%)
Bloc Quebecois 54 (17.5%)
NDP 19 (6.2%)
Independent 2 (0.6%)
Vacant 1 (0.3%)
if everybody votes along party lines, the bill will pass, because even though the Conservatives have vowed to fight it till the bitter end, the Bloc and the NDP have said they'll support it. However, many Liberals have stated that they will not support the bill.
If you want to let your MP know what you think, or find out what they think, you can find them here:
Members of the House of Commons. You can see all the MPs there - alphabetically, by riding, or by party. So you can find yours and e-mail them or call them.
If you don't actually remember your riding or MP's name, don't despair: you can find your Member of Parliament using your postal code.

Oh, and stolen from

Rick Mercer's rant about gay marriage :D :D :D
* Edit: So Chris looks at my subject heading and gives me a puzzled look. "PSA? Prostate-specific antigens?"

fic rec? what's that?
Feb. 4th, 2005 09:12 pmI must admit, I hardly ever go to fanfiction.net any more. I'm not reading much fic these days, good, bad or indifferent, and I find the grain/chaff ratio on ff.n much, much lower than the grain/chaff on the lj communities like
lawandorderfic or
negativebupkes etc. I know I'm missing out on some gems in amongst the crap, but frankly, I can't be bothered to dig through these days.
So, wow. Went there on a whim, and found a really (IMHO) good tribute to Lennie. Some parts didn't quite work for me, and it required encyclopedic knowledge of the eps to get all of it, but overall? Ooh, shiny. IMHO.
Our Man Briscoe, by fear-ciuil.
