Busy day. Way too much going on. Which was good, though, because today would have been my mother's 61 birthday and I didn't particularly want to spend it feeling blue. We ended the day with dinner with Guy, and [livejournal.com profile] ninja_kat and Mr. [livejournal.com profile] ninja_kat dropped by to drop off a pummelo and pick up other stuff.

Pummelos are good. Now I know. Life goes on :)

Speaking of life going on, Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] medee6040!

So, our day:

  • Pediatric dentist 8:00 am. Coming back for 4 more appointments to fill in cavities and did you know that babies with recurring ear infections often have lots of cavities later because their bodies were too busy battling ear bugs to make strong teeth? I didn't.

  • Home for snack & supplies 9:30

  • Museum of Sci-Tech 10:00. Did you know that the joy of the Crazy Kitchen is due to the fact that your eyes and your inner ear are giving you contradictory messages about which way is up? (Daniel and Justin learned that today). And liquid nitrogen "makes the air decrease in volume inside the balloon!" (said Daniel to the lady doing the liquid nitrogen demo). And irons used to have hot coals inside, and be made of real iron. And a Van Der Graff Generator makes your hair stand up. And different pulleys can make the same 18kg easier or harder to lift. And the most important thing to figure out when reading a map is your own location.

    And I love this age.

  • Lunch (at the museum) 12:30

  • Choir 1:30. Did you know that when we sing a piece we've rehearsed a lot, we sound really, really good?

  • Swimming 3:00. Did you know that a five year old can go up and down a baby slide for 45 minutes while his brother has a swimming lesson, with no signs of tiring or getting bored?

  • Grocery shopping 4:30

  • Home 5:30

  • Make curried chicken, sweet saffron rice, spicy carrots, and tidy, while Chris takes kids and fixes toilet. Did you know that when you play with a big piece of white styrofoam, little bits of it break off and go aaall over the lower floor of the house? And did you know that when Mama spent a couple of hours tidying and sweeping the day before this styrofoam discovery, she's less than pleased to see those little white bits?

Gosh, Mamas can yell loud when they're less than pleased.

  • Guy shows up 6:00

  • Dinner 7:00

  • [livejournal.com profile] ninja_kat + hubby come bearing pummelos. Did you know that the word for grapefruit in Spanish is pomelo? So that when you present a Spanish speaker with a pummelo, she may wonder how come you're not just calling it a grapefruit? And may be surprised to note just how different grapefruit and pummelo are?

  • Bed 9:30. (For the kids, that is).

Did you know that when a mother of two small boys has a day like the above (pre-styrofoam), she may very well start to wonder why not just pull both kids out of school for the year?

Have I mentioned before that I'm totally in love with this age?

For some bizarre reason, I thought I would have time to poke my favourite author's list three times again. Well... I did. Poke it three times, that is. Came up with Twins of Hazzard, Karen Howard-Joly, and [livejournal.com profile] sugarkane_59. But as I had precious little e-time today, I'll have to write about them tomorrow. And then probably stop. I didn't think I'd write about anybody, since I really don't have time, but it was so much fun that I couldn't shut up. I'll have to, though. Because of this stupid thing called school, which is really cramping my style lately.

I'll also have to write down exactly what it was that Justin felt the need to explain at dinner time, in vivid detail. I was laughing too hard to get it all, but it went something like this: "When a baby comes out, it hurts A LOT!! Because the baby's really big, but the uterus isn't so big." And then there was some kind of hideous sound effect, and more gory detail. I'll have to ask Chris to fill in the blanks for me. It was worth recording for posterity :)

JetsGo goes under.

Moral of the story? Don't ever pay for plane tickets with cash or cheque. Credit cards will give you your money back if the airline folds between the time you buy your tickets and the time you get to the gate, five minutes later. Especially during, like, Spring break.

Oh, and if you're in Ontario, Quebec or BC, book through a travel agency, and you'll be OK. If you live in any of the impoverished provinces or territories... um, don't travel, I guess.
