From [livejournal.com profile] medee6040: it appears I have a choice of adorable hobbit with a disturbing fixation on sinister jewelry, or Death Eater...

I am so completely not able to do my bloody Globalisation essay!

Damn, I hate writing essays. Must remember to sign up for 100% exam classes from now on.

Yeah, so, this is supposed to be a meme where you put the first lines of your five favourite books and other people guess what they are, but I had a tough time just limiting myself to ten, so... yeah.

  1. Stavia saw herself as in a picture, from the outside, a darkly cloaked figure moving along a cobbled street, the stone sheened with a soft, early spring rain.

  2. The reading woman sits by the window, lamplight falling over her shoulder onto the book.

  3. On a morning in the springtime of the year, when the snows of the mountains were melting and the rivers swift in their running, Aelis de Miraval watched her hsuband ride out at dawn to hunt in the forest west of the their castle, and shortly after that she took horse herself, travelling north and east along the shores of the lake towards the begetting of her son. A Song For Arbonne, Guy Gavriel Kay, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] ninja_kat.

  4. The small boys came early to the hanging. Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] daf9.

  5. When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow. To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] leaper182.

  6. Mars was empty before we came. Red Mars, Kim Stanley Robinson, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] shellmidwife

  7. Both moons were high, dimming the light of all but the brightest stars.

  8. It was a dark and stormy night.

  9. To be honest, I haven't been able to remember clearly everything that happened to me before and during Trial, so where necessary I've filled in with possiblities - lies, if you want.

  10. If, standing alone on the back doorstep, Tom allowed himself tears, they were tears of anger.

And in other news, the G8 sucks. But friends who will take your child for a few hours so that you can work on a paper explaining why the G8 sucks, do not. Suck, that is.

Also, my English skills are rapidly deteriorating.

  • Finished first draft of Globalization paper. 15 pages so far. Max is 25. ::shrug:: I'll get there.

  • Have developed an unhealthy and embarrassing addiction to Oatmeal Crisp cereal - specifically, to the Almond variety. May have consumed about 19 bowls today.

  • Justin would like to stop going to day care after I'm done school. This is good. Day care is expensive. We just weren't sure he'd want to leave it, since he seems to have so much fun there.

  • 10 more days till April 18, when I hand in my last paper.

  • Hating [livejournal.com profile] bear with the fire of a thousand suns right now, for her gloatasmic entry re being done with papers forever OMG. ::snarls::

  • Hating her less for having five of them due before the end of the month. ::pets::

  • Ambivalent about her continued HP pimpage. ::snarlpets:: ::petsnarls::

  • Would like April 18 to happen soon. Please.

gah

OK, this? Just literally made my blood run a little cold.

Culture war hits local pharmacy.

And yes, I had heard about it, but I guess I'd just heard the theory, not the practice. Eep.

heh

So I'm spellchecking my Admin class notes, and having the worst time with one sentence re. how boards ought not to exercise their discretionary powers "crapiciously". Moving the letters around, trying to get rid of Word's little red underline showing me that it's misspelled. Is Word set to Canadian spelling and I'm missing a u? Nope. Hm. Should that be sciously? Nope. OK, how about csiously - no, that's ridiculous. Oh - am I on American spelling and therefore have an extra u? No. Damn it.

Oh. Or am I being Freudian and just dealing with too much um, crap?

Hey, at this point, you take what you can get in terms of amusement.

Frankly, I'd rather be amused at stuff the kids say/do. They're far funnier. I miss my kids.
