I may be one of the least stressed parent of young children in the Ottawa region today. Because our local school board is currently experiencing labour difficulties with supports staff, so: Board to close schools as strike looms.

So here I am, with both kids home, and it's not a big deal because I was thinking of pulling Daniel out and homeschooling anyway, and I'm home, so we don't need to scramble for babysitters or alternate care or take a day (or two or three) off work, unlike the parents of the other 78,000 kids who attend schools in our board do.

You could feel the tension in the air last night among the parents picking up their kids the last night. We'd been told the schools would be open but would not have extracurriculars or things like that. We were only told they would close yesterday. Not enough time for single parents, or working parents, or poor parents, or parents with no family/friends to help them out, to be able to do anything but call in sick to work today, and be chastised for 'not being prepared' for parenting emergencies.

Oh, and points for yesterday was 27.

Watching Attack of the Clones yesterday I was reminded of the following bit of mortician humour )

And if you know why Clones reminded of the joke, you get a Han Solo action figure.

Well, not really. But in my mind, I'll be presenting you with an action figure.

Also: courtesy of the Newley Seniorized [livejournal.com profile] tobiascharity, this made me smile: March Of The Penguins.

In other news, it was a good day. Home alone with the kids all day because of the school support staff strike and Chris being on call, we nevertheless survived and thrived :)
