I don't suffer from insomnia...
Aug. 26th, 2005 05:08 am...I revel in it!
Except, no, I don't. Not right now, at 4AM the day of the wedding, when I can't go back to sleep because I didn't pack my meds. Bleh.
Otherwise, Winterpeg Wedding is going well. The B&B is insanely cute, the company wonderful, and the time away from the kids is a real treat. Even though I miss them.
Today's (or rather, yesterday's) activities included
Tomorrow (or rather, today's) planned activity: The Wedding.
Oh - and just in case I haven't explained this before, we're here for Chris' dad's wedding. Chris' family tree is rather tangled and oddly pruned, but I'll try to summarize the main players present at this wedding so far:
Chris' dad (CD)
Dad's fiancee (DF)
DF's daughter (DFD)
DF's son (DFS)
Chris' brother (CB)
Brother's lover (CBL)
Missing: Chris' sister (CS)
The bachelorette party consisted of DF, DFD, CBL, and me.
The bachelor party consisted of CD, DFS, CB, and Chris.
Clear as mud? Thought so.
Fun time, anyway. Although poor CBL got an earful about CD's ex-wife (Chris' stepmother), from DF, DFD, and me. My own contribution to the lambasting had to do with her... interesting behaviour last summer. Which, in retrospect, I'm kind of grateful for. Not that it was much fun at the time, but it certainly did provide me with a lifelong excuse to never, ever speak to her again ;)

although the second entry is f-locked so if you really want to read it and aren't on lj, drop me a line. Brief summary: Chris and I got shrieked at, for over an hour, at 11PM the night before my mother's funeral, for our extreme selfishness and callous insensitivity. No joke.)
On the plus side, assuming we haven't totally scared her off this family yet, we got to get to know CBL. Who is very, very cool. And makes CB very, very happy. Which is always a good thing :)
One thing I have to say about Chris' family. Nutty and bizarre as they can all be at times, I have never met a more welcoming bunch when it comes to new significant others. There's no sense of "let's see if this person is worthy to join us" or anything remotely similar. Every person I've seen come into the family (including me) has been greeted with open arms. Whether those arms remain open depends on a lot of things, but the initial attitude is always an enthusiastic desire to embrace them and make them feel part of the family. It's neat :)
On that note, I think I'll go off and try to sleep again.

Today's (or rather, yesterday's) activities included
- a walk through part of Winnipeg - which, by the way, is Flat Like My Shoes - very disconcerting
- wedding rehearsal at art gallery - wow!
- meeting bro-in-law's significant other - again, wow! Although they refer to one another as each other's 'lover' so I guess I better do so too...
- bachelorette/bachelor parties - fairly low-key affairs, 4 people in each, yummy food
- rather more drinking than I'm used to, for the second day in a row
- reading/writing/drawing downtime
