Oh, here we go again.

HARPER CONFIRMS RE-OPENING VOTE IS COMING
Two-thirds of Canadians against re-opening equal marriage debate )

You can get more information by going to Equal Marriage's website, http://www.equal-marriage.ca/

I did find out two nice things this morning. My own MP, who is Conservative, has stated his intention to vote against the government on this one. And Canadian business leaders are pretty much set against it too. And, from last year around this time, here's an interesting case of politics making strange bedfellows:

Conservative, Liberal and NDP Youth from Ontario Congratulate Parliament for Defeating Harper Amendments to Bill C-38

In a way I'm kind of glad they're doing this. Harper has said that if the vote goes against the government, the issue will be dropped once and for all. And he did make a campaign promise to do this, so I guess he should get points for keeping his promises.

OTOH... ::blowing hair off of face in annoyance:: Damn it, enough already.

And in other news: Chris just left to write his first exam.

Went to Red Lobster yesterday. It is so wonderful to be at that stage where you can take your kids to a restaurant and know that they'll (more or less) behave themselves and won't bother the other diners at all. And of course, taking Justin anywhere food-centred is almost a guaranteed good time, as he throws himself into the experience wholeheartedly.

At some point during dinner, Chris was talking about something and mentioned that he'd put $5 in a collection basket recently, and that was about a quarter of the money that was in the basket.

"So there was $20 in the basket," Justin commented, and went on eating as Chris and I did a double take. Six years old and doing multiplication in his head. I love our kids :)

Am slowly digging my way out of our pile o' filth. Will have to post before and after pictures.

No, I don't know why this sudden intense need to re-post a link to one of the loveliest pieces of music ever to grace the internet. I just wanted to share the beauty. The delicate splendour of the lilting harmonies. The soft sussuration of the Gaelic lyrics, and the delightful penny-whistle solo.

The Gaelic Song
The Arrogant Worms

Through the ages, through war, pestilence and sleet, the Celtic culture has survived, its songs and dances passed from father to son, from mother to daughter, from uncle to goat. And though few still speak Gaelic, the ancient language of the Celts, all hearts are still stirred by the beautiful tones of this mellifluous tongue.
