ciroccoj: (stupidity)
I read something once that said the origin of the word "Mayday!" was "M'aidez", French for "help me!" No idea if that's true.

OK, this is going to sound weird, but I'm wondering if there's any French experts out there who could help me out. I've just written a letter to Guylaine, Guy's daughter, in French. She understands English, but she's not fluent in it and I would really like to send her something that she won't have to struggle with. Unfortunately, my French, while marginally better than her English, is not exactly expert-level. I can translate a simple letter, mostly, but I know there's dozens of typos and grammar errors and awkward phrases and bizarre word choices (eg "The top of G8 de Saint-Pétersbourg invited Sunday to act against the climatic reheating," BabelFish's translation of "Le sommet du G8 de Saint-Pétersbourg a appelé dimanche à agir contre le réchauffement climatique") and I'd really rather not totally confuse her with all of that.

So. Would anybody be willing to look over a 588-word letter in French? Just to point out "The top of G8 de Saint-Pétersbourg"s in my own writing?
