I'm not entirely sure why I love this song so incredibly much. It's Rent, sure, and I love Rent, but am not a fanatic about it. For some reason this song just reaches out and grabs me though. It's so passionate, for lack of a better word. Both of the women show their love for one another so clearly, but are both also so unwilling to compromise for one another, both self-assured to the point of stubborness. It's unusual to see that kind of attitude in women in the media - or in real life, for that matter.

I love Maureen's histrionic narcissistic "Look at me I'm just so hot," and the song is lovely just for that, but the part that really gets to me is when obsessive-compulsive Joanne takes off her jacket and just totally takes off, showing she thinks pretty highly of herself too and is not about to let Maureen make her feel like she should just be grateful just to have her.

Then the last bit by the pool table... just so powerful. Wow.
