Nov. 15th, 2007 12:46 pmOMG I am going to throttle him. Maybe that'll make him wake up; god knows nothing else is doing the trick.
Me: OK, Justin, you finish this page of your music and Daniel, your music is pages 27 and 28, the book's on the little table along with your math book. (Realizes Daniel is not entirely there) Daniel? Are you paying attention?
Daniel: Yeah?
Me: Finish your music - that's pages 27 and 28 - and then you can take a break. The music book is on the little table. Along with your math book.
Daniel: Mmhm. (Remains seated on the floor, gazing into a book.)
Me: Daniel.
Daniel: Mhm?
Me: What are you supposed to be doing?
Daniel: I don't know.
Me: Did you hear me tell you to do your work? Twice?
Daniel: Yeah.
Me: So what did I tell you?
Daniel: Oh. My math? Where is it?
Me: Where do you think?
Daniel: (Goes to the bookshelf and starts looking for his math book, quickly becoming frustrated.)
Justin: You're not doing math.
Me: Justin, please don't help. I told him twice, he needs to learn to pay attention.
Daniel: But how am I supposed to figure out what I'm doing?
Me: OK, I dunno, but you'd better figure it out, 'cause I'm not repeating it.
Daniel: But I don't know what to do.
Me: Should've paid attention, then. Figure it out.
Daniel: But how can I figure it out?
Me: You've got eight subjects. Figure it out.
Daniel: (Very annoyed). But how is that going to help?
Justin: You've got English, and Spanish, and-
Me: Justin, sweetie, please don't help.
Daniel: But I don't know which one you told me to do!
Me: So get a piece of paper and write out all your subjects. Once you have them written out, figure out which ones you've done already. Go sit at the little table to do that.
Daniel: (Sits at the little table, directly in front of his music and math books, highly irate.) What do I do now?
Me: Write your subjects.
Daniel: What are they?
Me: The same subjects you've been doing for three years.
(cut another five minutes of him harrumphing and glowering, moving the music and math books out of the way, determined to prove that there is no way he could possibly know what the hell I want from him.)
Daniel: Music! I haven't finished music this week!
Me & Justin: Yes!
Daniel: Where's my music book?
Me: ::facepalm::
Justin: Mama sent you to sit right in front of it! After she told you two times that it was at the little table!
OMG he's been like this all morning. Copy the above for getting dressed, finding clean laundry, helping pack for our trip to Montreal, going out - he was going to go out barefoot, in a t-shirt and shorts, Ottawa in mid-November - crossing the street, etc etc etc. It's like dealing with a toddler with a large vocabulary and bowel control.
