Hm... much has happened lately. Where to begin?
- Did a concert today. Second last concert of the year, and it went pretty well. I even got to stand in the front row and hear a part that wasn't soprano! Not that I'm that excited being in the front row - actually I very much prefer the back - but one of the downsides of being a first soprano is that you usually hear nothing but first sopranos. Since one of the cool things about being in a choir is singing parts, that's a bit disappointing. I'm thinking of asking Kurt if I can be a second next year.
Anyway, I got to sing next to the basses during the concert rehearsal, and again when we did the final run-through, and I was all excited - and then at the very last minute another second showed up, and edged in. Boo. But! Then the front row was lacking people, so up I went, and sang next to a tenor. For one song.
Hey, it was exciting for me. They have different notes and everything! Way deeper than mine! Who knew? Not me.
The concert went pretty well, I think, positioning aside. The audience seemed pretty happy with it, anyway. I think it really helped that we had a soprano sectional on Monday, because... myeah. We weren't so good before that.
What else? - Justin. Poor guy has an ear infection, and I marvel at the fact that he was such a relatively cheery baby when he had them one after another for about two years. He was crying last night, and a bit again today, even though his eardrum burst and his ear's been draining most of the day. God, poor guy.
- Finished watching The Greatest Canadian, and may I say my boys are really, really, really cool. They really got into it. Like, as in, requesting to see the bios, not just politely sitting through them. Had some spirited discussions about them. I'll have to type in their opinions on the various candidates because man, some of them were hilarious.
And at the end we did a list, 1-10, for who we thought was the greatest. Let's see if my HTML skills are up to the task here:
Typical snippet of discussion:
Justin: I think Frederick Banting is the Greatest Canadian.
Daniel: I think you only think that because he saved Star Wars.
Justin: Partly you're right.
Banting's advocate had included a list of famous diabetics who would not be alive if not for Banting. They included Halle Berry, H.G. Wells, and Mary Tyler Moore, none of whom meant much to the boys. We went online and discovered a few more, including Andrew Lloyd Weber (Jesus Christ Superstar and Phantom of the Opera! Wow!) and, to their mutual amazement, George Lucas.
Also talked about how it was possible the three of us also might not be alive if not for Banting. My dad's father had diabetes, but I don't know when he was diagnosed. I think it was late in life, after he'd had my dad, but I could be wrong.
In any case: thanks, Dr. Banting :)
