OK, I've never particularly liked this guy but damn, he had me cheering at some points. Not that I necessarily agreed with everything he said. Just... 99% of it ;)
Craig Ferguson on (US) Election 2008
In our own election news, the Greens' Elizabeth May was banned from being at the leaders' debate. Then they were OK'd to be at the leaders' debate. Yes, for the first time ever, there will be a Green Party representative there. Because, for the first time ever, Canada has a Member of Parliament from the Green Party (who wasn't actually elected as a Green; he was a Liberal, got involved in some, um, uncertain things, resigned as a Liberal, asked to come back and was told he couldn't, then signed on with the Greens. A proud, shining moment of exultation for the environmentalists? Not... entirely).
Anyway. Now that the Greens are in, other small parties want in too. Like the Christian Heritage Party of Canada and the Animal Alliance Environment Voters Party of Canada. The newsfolk say no; entry is limited to only those who have an MP in the House.
Incidentally, I eagerly await the day that the Marijuana Party and the Parti Populaire des Putes get an MP. Imagine the leaders' debates then! (Pute, BTW, is French for Whore.) (No, really.)
I know who I'm voting for, though: The Arrogant Worms. Their campaign promises just cannot be beat.
Oh! Side note: we saw the Arrogant Worms, actually, at a folk festival. We even got an advance copy of their new album, Torpid, which was released a week later. Felt all special and nyah-nyah-nyah about it :) And the kids were totally thrilled; they've listened to Canada's Really Big and Baby Poo and The Pirates of the Saskatchewan and The Gaelic Song far more than is probably emotionally healthy. And I'd never seen them in concert, even though they started in Kingston and I spent 11 years there. Damn, but they're funny.
