Copy this sentence into your LiveJournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.
I normally hate these things, because they make it sound like, if you don't follow the instructions contained therein, you disagree with the statement. So: consider the language above to be couched as a suggestion rather than a commandment, 'k?
Feeling enormously grateful to live in Canada right now. Because if either of my boys ever wants to make a commitment to another male, no law will tell him that in doing so, he will be hurting my marriage. And because, although I believe both could have perfectly happy lives without needing a single vow or government piece of paper, if I ever have a chance to be the Mother of the Groom, I will jump for joy and cry happy tears at the wedding. And not give a damn whether their future spouse is a man or a woman, as long as they make my son as happy as Chris has made me.
Am also bizarrely grateful to Stephen Harper right now. For promising to revisit the idea of gay marriage if elected, and holding a free vote on it just as he promised, so that the entire topic could finally be put to rest and we could all get on with our lives.
