Overheard in an elevator
Feb. 20th, 2009 06:54 pmI love Ottawa. Office building downtown, full of hoity-toity offices (lawyers, "professional development", advertising, etc), I get into an elevator with about four other people, one of whom is a youngish woman dialing her cellphone.
Her: ::a bit breathless:: Hi? ::pause:: Yeah? Oh yeah. I got it. ::pause:: ::in a sing-song voice:: I'm gonna make a lot more than yoo-oo.
The other four of us in the elevator: ::chuckles and a few muffled snort-laughs::
Her: ::a bit sheepishly:: Je pense que peut-etre j'ai parlé un peu trop fort. ("I think maybe I said that a little too loud.")
The other four of us in the elevator: ::more chuckles and muffled snort-laughs::
Downtown Ottawa, kid. Most of us are bilingual. 'Sokay, though; we were all pretty happy for you, whatever it was you got :) :)
