Mixed marriages never really work out
Nov. 23rd, 2009 09:15 amNo, not racially mixed. Dormantly mixed. Chris, and no, I have no clue how he can manage this, has gone back to sleep despite the continued jackhammering. He can and does go to sleep and stay asleep through anything - partly because that's just who he is, partly because he spent years on a less-than-bare-minimum amount of sleep as a resident, and partly because of the brain damage.
I, on the other hand, wake up when a bloody fly lands on me, and can't go back to sleep to save my life.
Which makes mornings a joyful thing in our house, when Chris requires about an hour's worth of snooze alarms to get out of bed, and I wake up irrevocably after the first one. Which may be part of why we almost divorced during his residency, especially after the accident, when brain damage was added to an already soul-destroying situation.

ETA: Tangent here: remember that justice of the peace who refused to marry an interracial couple, in part because in his opinion, children of mixed marriages seldom do well? Of all the millions of words expended to decry just how on earth this could still be happening in 2009, my favourite was this: "Yeah, well, he's probably really worried one of their kids will become President some day."

Here is a link to a well-written, eloquent discussion of Australia's law on same-sex marriage:
Whatever the gender, all marriages should be equal
The article is not snicker-worthy at all. But the Google Ad placed right under the headline, which reads Seeking a Wife? Latin American Women Marriage. 1000s Women Are Looking For Men. Amolatina.com kinda is :D :D :D
