...skid marks before the snake.
I really thought I'd start resenting lawyer jokes as I got into the legal profession and met other lawyers. Sadly, my entrance into the legal world and introduction to many kind, hard-working, and ethically admirable lawyers is happening at the same time as our lawsuit lurches on with ever increasing lawyerly shenanigans. I find myself inventing new lawyer jokes just to stave off the homicidal ideation >:(
No, I won't share said "jokes". They're bitter and not all that funny and involve a lot of iffy language and iffier suggestions for insertion of various legal objects into various lawyerly orifices.
Our mediation, scheduled for this Friday, is off. The other side just changed lawyers - again! - and the new one can't possibly get up to speed in time. We have been waiting for this mediation date since... January? Something like that. The date was set in January because the meeting that month had fallen through, and that one had been set up because the one in December didn't happen, and the one in December had been a rescheduling of one in October...
Chris's accident was April 6th 2001. We filed suit not long after. Ten years the other side has been stalling and ignoring medical reports and stalling again and using the "liar liar pants on fire" defence when all else fails.
I am so, so, so pissed off. Ten &%$#ing years.
Mind you if they'd settled this thing way back when we first filed it, we would've been screwed because we didn't realize yet just how much Chris's life would be affected by the accident. Ten years down the road, the figure we're asking for has more than tripled, as we get more and more evidence of how much we've all lost. If this ever does go to trial, we should bloody well sue for punitive damages as well. Because they keep right on stalling. 'Cause it's just a case, to them. Nothing to do with real flesh and blood people who might not deserve to get jerked around for over a decade.
Bastards.
You know, I was all happy before getting the call from our lawyer. Had a post half-written, with pictures of our new kitchen floor, thoughts on the gaming convention last weekend (where Chris won a trophy for best kids' game or possibly best set-up), History Fair stuff, even some pictures I finally uploaded re. Easter, and plans to go to Toronto and visit Chris's sister and brother-in-law after the mediation...
Now I feel like firebombing something.
