The Wisdom of Chris
Nov. 21st, 2004 10:23 pmWe were stopped by a RIDE program today, and the cops asked Chris if he'd been drinking and asked if we were all buckled in safely. As we were sent on our way, the boys wanted to know why they did that. Long discussion ensued, covering road safety, drinking and driving, and legislating safety for those not wise enough to be safe just because it's the smart thing to do. This eventually ended with Chris telling us that there is one state where bikers do not legally have to wear helmets. In all the rest of North America, it's the law, but this one state doesn't make anybody wear a helmet, despite the fact that motorcycle mortality due to helmetlessness is staggering.
"And you know what? The bikers there don't wear their helmets. Proving once more, that people in general are too stupid to even protect their own brains."
