Our Medieval Diorama: The Four Alls

Here's the medieval diorama that Daniel and Justin and I made over the summer, newly photographed by our nifty new digital camera which was ninja_kat's nifty old digital camera :)




The Four Alls
From top to bottom: the Church, nobility, knights, and peasants.


Second tier: the Knights who fight for All
Note the classy aluminum foil armor, and screw-rapiers on the knights. Note also the bizarre shield on the wall.
Bottom tier: the Peasants who work for All
Note the egg carton hovel, unsteady sheep (one upside down) and the castle in the background. And that's not more sheep glued to the sky - they're clouds.


Second tier: the Nobles who rule All
Note the jewel-encrusted thrones, goblet, and tapestries on the wall.
Bottom tier: the Knights who fight for All


The Priests who pray for All
You'll have to imagine an oddly misshapen little priest here - neither of the boys was interested in making him.


(and the Stained Glass Windows who look pretty for All)

Did you base this on a book? I'm looking for good books on the middle ages.

That is simply FABULOUS! What talented little guys you have! I am interested in the medieval period myself, I do a lot of embroidery from that period. But this is great! How long did it take them to do that?

I miss doing crafts ... I had so much fun this past summer, working at a kids' science and creativity camp. Who knew you could do so much with a pipe cleaner?

How long did it take them to do that?
Oh, we did it on and off for a couple of months. Left it alone for a while, then I gave them a little lecture on completion and being able to point to something you've done and say "I did that!" rather than "I started that... um... it's supposed to be a diorama, I think..."

They were unconvinced. I applied gentle parental pressure, they finished it, and went off to play, apparently forgetting all about it as soon as they finished gluing the cross to the wall. ::sigh:: So much for that little moral lesson, I thought.

Rethought it when Chris came home and was greeted by "DADDY DADDY DADDY LOOK WHAT WE FINISHED WE MADE THAT WE'RE ALL DONE WE DID THE WHOLE THING DADDY DADDY DADDY!!"
