Bummer Warning
Aug. 8th, 2003 11:08 amI'm getting pretty sick of death. This last year has been a god damn death-fest.
Yesterday Chris got a call from his brother, letting him know that their last remaining grandparent, Grandpa Rae (dad's dad), had died. Barely two months after Grandma Hurrell, his mom's mom.
By my count, in the last year or so the following people I know have died:
My grandmother Olga, (dad's mom, my last remaining grandparent), July 6, 2002
Leslie and Bryan Rampey, March 23, 2003
Grandma Hurrell, May 31, 2003
Grandpa Rae, August 6, 2003
I'm starting to wonder who's next.
And in the world of people I don't know, it hasn't been much better. This summer has seen the last of David Brinkley, 82, June 12, Gregory Peck, 87, June 13, Hume Cronyn, 91, June 16, Katharine Hepburn, 96, June 29, Buddy Hackett, 78, June 30, and Bob Hope, 100, July 27. And I know I'm missing a few others.
Bloody depressing.
So today we're packing to go to Kingston to celebrate our friends Todd and Susan's son Zane's 1st birthday. We'll also be packing good clothes for Chris, just in case he can nab a plane from Kingston to Calgary to go to Grandpa Rae's funeral. Chris' sister Sarah also lives in Kingston, so hopefully they can fly out to Calgary together, probably Sunday night.
