Misc entry #666
Sep. 21st, 2007 12:24 amYeah OK I have no idea whether I'm anywhere near Misc. entry #666, but Chris has inspired an unhealthy love of the number in me. Funny the things you pick up from each other over 15 years together.
- Went to choir on Wednesday. Kurt mixed us up for the beginning of the rehearsal, so I got to sing between a tenor and a bass! Wheee!
Sadly, although the thing I love the most about choir is that different bits of melody/harmony come together to make something beautiful, I am almost always stuck deeep in soprano territory, often next to very loud sopranos, and thus only hear the other parts as faraway occasional notes.
::sigh::
Oh! And we're singing a piece in Spanish! In five years we have sung in English, French, German, Latin, Finnish, Polish, Zulu, Xhosa, Afrikaans, and probably a few others I'm forgetting, but no Spanish. Ever. Muy triste. - Picked Daniel up from Upper Canada Village yesterday, and was heartbroken to find when we got there that the kids had already changed out of their period costumes, and I had no pictures of Daniel as an 1860's Canadian boy. Hope to get some from some of the parents who were there as chaperones. Hope to go with them myself next year, when Justin is also old enough to go, which he very much wants to do now that we've finished Farmer Boy. The kids have a real blast, writing on slates in the one-room schoolhouse, filling the pig troughs, milking cows, etc. I want to go to. I want to play Laura Ingalls (well, Caroline Ingalls, really). I want to wear a hoopskirt.
- It seems that I am doing less and less these days, judging from my lj, but 'taint so. The boys are home schooling in earnest, I've started my research for the DSF, am getting a couple of real estate agents to look over my mom's house on Monday, have been writing, doing Taekwon-Do (can now do 25 push-ups without too much pain!), not losing weight but losing inches, and... yeah. Lots going on. Somehow it doesn't make it onto the page. Screen. Whatever.
- Me: ::listening to playlist:: .. there you go, quite possibly the only rock song ever to use the word "balalaika."
Chris: ::laughs:: What? That's not even a word.
Me: Yes it is.
Chris: No it isn't. Are you making that up?
Me: No.
Chris: You are.
Me: No I'm not. Listen ::cranks up the music:: See? "Let your balalaika sing/What my guitar wants to say"
Chris: That's what you think, but come on, I used to think Ozzy sang "I want to eat my smorgasbord"-
Me: But balalaika is a real word.
Chris: No it's not.
Me: Are you serious?
Chris: What?
Me: You seriously don't know what a balalaika is?
Chris: No. You made it up.
Me: No I didn't. It's a Russian guitar. Folk instrument.
Chris: Honey, if you think I'll believe you now just because you rattled off a definition you're horribly wrong, because I can make up words too and give them weird definitions.
I follow the Moskva
Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change
An August summer night
Soldiers passing by
Listening to the wind of change
The world closing in
Did you ever think
That we could be so close, like brothers
The future's in the air
I can feel it everywhere
Blowing with the wind of change
Chorus:
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change
Walking down the street
Distant memories
Are buried in the past forever
I fallow the Moskva
Down to Gorky Park
Listening to the wind of change
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams
With you and me
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change
The wind of change blows straight
Into the face of time
Like a stormwind that will ring
The freedom bell for peace of mind
Let your balalaika sing
What my guitar wants to say
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams
With you and me
Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change
