Well, the Confederation thing I know b/c I'm a Brit Lit scholar. It's not that important in England, but 19th century Canadian literature, particularly those that involve people going back to the "auld sod" are somewhat under the purview, particularly if you're into Imperial fiction. So...that's how I know that.
You know what's weird? GWB's inauguration was literally the first thing I thought of for 2001. Not 9/11. It was strange.
I'm just embarrassed that I almost missed the Titanic. And OMG *kicking* myself for not getting Pompeii.
