ciroccoj: (alive)
[personal profile] ciroccoj
Well, I had plans for today - namely, making a gingerbread house - but Justin is being too crazy to attempt anything like that. So I've sent the boys outside for a "shake the sillies out" time, and will try again when they come back in, hopefully tired and willing to do non-destructive things.

Went to my family doc yesterday and found out that one of my recent bits of bloodwork came back low iron, low hemoglobin, possible thyroid deficiency. And apparently, not a high enough level of amytriptelene (sp?) to make a difference in my mood. Doc asked how I was feeling, since my bloodwork seemed to indicate that I should still be depressed and have low energy, from the lack of iron or thyroid hormones or both.

::shrug:: I don't feel great, but I also don't feel bad. So he nodded and said "Let's go with that then. I try to treat patients, not lab results."

Sensible guy.

Now without further ado, copied from a whole lot of people, here's the

1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?
Can't think of anything off-hand. Finish a year of law school?
Later Edit: Oh! Start an online community-type thing, [livejournal.com profile] thursday100plus.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make New Year's Resolution. I stopped when I realized that for ten years, my one resolution had been to stop cracking my knuckles.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My former classmate from my computer undergrad had a boy named Nicholas, and one of Chris' old high school friends had a boy named Blake.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Leslie Rampey, whom I had actually never met face to face. And Chris' grandmother Jessie and grandfather George.

5. What countries did you visit?
None.

6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003?
Less blood loss, more good health.

7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No particular date, although I don't think I'll forget that Leslie died in March and I was hospitalized on September 12.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being more able to spend time with and enjoy spending time with Chris and the boys. Although I'm also pretty proud of how well I did in my first year of law school.

9. What was your biggest failure?
The fact that it took so long to get to that point, and that in the meantime we had a lot of horrible fights and misery.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Heh, yeah. Admitted immediately into the ER with "unstable vital signs" and hospitalized for three days with four units of blood transfusion and (I think) ten units saline counts as illness or injury, doesn't it?

11. What was the best thing you bought?
I have no idea.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Chris', for his patience with me.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Chris', sometimes. And mine. Occasionally Justin's, when he was being Stitch.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food, shelter, child care, paying off Chris' debt. Big chunk off to Ottawa Law school.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
H:LOTS and my palm pilot.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?
Complicated :)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Much, much happier.

ii. thinner or fatter?
Huh. The scales say I stayed the same. I thought I'd gained weight.

iii. richer or poorer?
Poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spent more time together as a family, especially going camping.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasted time on the computer. Writing and corresponding by e-mail isn't wasting time, but hours and hours of solitaire is.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Chris will be on call the 24th and 26th, so I don't know.

22. Did you fall in love in 2003?
Kind of :)

23. How many one-night stands?
None.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Law & Order :)

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't think so.

26. What was the best book you read?
Years of Rice and Salt, by Kim Stanley Robinson.

27. What was your greatest musical (re)discovery?
Avril Lavigne ;) Just kidding. Chicago.

28. What did you want and get?
The HLOTS DVDs for Seasons 1-3.

29. What did you want and not get?
A resolution to the damn lawsuit.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Matrix? I can't remember. Oh - possibly Brother Bear or Nemo, because we went with the kids.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Just two days ago, had sushi at home with my family. 33.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More energy and patience.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?
Ha! Same as every year - cover up for decency and warmth. And try not to clash.

34. What kept you sane?
Probably lj ;) And marital counseling.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None. Although Jean Chretien did a bunch of things I approved of (namely gay marriage, staying out of Iraq, pot legalization, signing the Kyoto Accord despite shrieking from business and conservative leaders), I'm actually not a big fan of his.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Toss-up between the war and gay marriage.

37. Who did you miss?
Leslie, Sarah and Reiner and Todd and Susan.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Hm. ::thinking back:: I don't think I "met" anybody other than online.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2003:
"Anti-depressants are our friends."

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?
