freezing various parts of me right off
Jan. 14th, 2004 10:09 pmOK, to everyone who's been complaining about the heat?
We've been stuck in -25C to -35C (that's -13F to -31F) for DAYS!!! By my calculations, since about January 3 or so. I could be wrong about that, but I know it chilled a few days before the kids came back. Right now, it's a balmy -33C (-27.4F) in the nation's capital.
At least the Canal's frozen over and open for business. This weekend we can apparently hope for a high of -9C (16F) so we're taking the kids onto the ice. Every freezing cloud does have a silver lining, I guess.
Later Edit: Hey. I just went to the Rideau Canal site I linked to above. It's pretty cool - you get live webcam image of the Canal at the Mackenzie-King Bridge and Dow's Lake (which right now is not so cool, since it just shows darkness), you get a Skate The Canal ride from beginning to end, and you get a VR tour of various spots along the way. Including the place where my family and I always start, the Concord Stop, because it's close to parking and Beavertails and hot chocolate and fires. The main reason why Justin loves going to the Canal :)

Date: 2004-01-15 07:56 am (UTC)I shouldn't complain about our 11F temperature, should I? (would that be about -10C?)

Date: 2004-01-15 09:36 am (UTC)I shouldn't complain either. I had friends who lived in Pickle Lake, Northern Ontario, for three years, and they regularly endured -50 to -60C (that's -58F to -76F) for weeks on end. I would've crawled into a hole and died.

Date: 2004-01-15 02:29 pm (UTC)Hey, I was born in Chile. Days like this I really wonder what the *&%$ my parents were thinking when they immigrated here.
