to not sleep, perchance to write
Apr. 19th, 2004 02:11 amIt's 11:49pm and the Ottawa Senators have won. How do I know this?
heathers posted the following comment on her lj: "fucking Ottawa."
Sorry, sweetie. For what it's worth, I kinda wish the Leafs had won too. I'm not a big fan of the traffic jams, incessant hooting, and random appearances of bizarre flags featuring Roman centurions or something, who presumably represent Senators. Screw historical accuracy, because a plumed helmet-head is a little more manly than a head with laurels on it.
Later Edit: Actually, having done a little experimental combining of two of my great passions in life - history and computers - I gotta say, the helmet head is better.

1:06am
Why am I doing this? I'm probably going to be up all night on this damn paper, which is only worth 30% anyway. Why?
Well, because I can be a perfectionist and frankly, this paper is kind of interesting.
Or rather, the topic is interesting. The paper itself is about as gripping as the phone book. But hey, I've sure learned a lot with this. I've learned how to navigate around the govcanada website, how to look up minutes of parliamentary sessions... actually, here:

Or rather, the topic is interesting. The paper itself is about as gripping as the phone book. But hey, I've sure learned a lot with this. I've learned how to navigate around the govcanada website, how to look up minutes of parliamentary sessions... actually, here:
- Legislation sure can be fun.
- Hansard minutes of Parliament debates are simply fascinating, if your biggest excitement in life is watching grass grow.
- Parliamentarians sure are a snarky bunch.
- Corporations suck.
- I'm a lot more cynical than I thought I was. Reading a Conservative Alliance member express concern that the proposed legislation might be unconstitutional, if it resulted in perfectly innocent corporate heads being found guilty by association if their companies broke the law... all I could think was, "Ooh, we own a few overseas sweatshops, do we, Honourable Member?"
- My cynicism can also splash onto lefties. Seeing the United Steelworker's Union come out against the broadening of this legislation to non-corporate organizations such as partnerships, charities, and trade unions my immediate thought was, "Did we direct union underlings to torch a few management houses during labour disputes? Is that what we're worried about, O Union Brother?"
- Paul Martin is the member for LaSalle—Émard.
- I know this because of the exorbitant number of snarky comments tossed around re. the member for LaSalle-Émard.
- The member for LaSalle-Émard is not everyone's favourite toy.
- In fact, he's a sort of Stalin/Hitler/Vlad the Impaler/Idi Amin in a three-piece suit.
- Some of these folks need to take serious happy pills before they start hearing voices telling them to kill said member for LaSalle-Émard. Not that I'm a fan of his, but... really. Chill.
- Corporations suck.
- I need to write a conclusion to my paper that is somewhat more cogent than my current conclusion - namely, "Corporations suck".
- But they do.
- Suck, that is.
- I should probably get back to work.
