Star Spangled Ice Cream was also launched last year as a conservative alternative to the produce of Ben and Gerry's, the ecology-leaning company whose founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield had supported Democrat Dennis Kucinich's unsuccessful campaign for the presidential nomination.
Among the flavors offered by Star Spangled Ice Cream: "I Hate The French VANILLA (Real American Vanilla, NOT French Vanilla)" and "Nutty Environmentalist (Rich Buttery Ice Cream with Roasted Pecans)."
Why the human race hasn't Darwined itself out of existence yet is a total mystery to me.

Soccer tonight, for the first time in three weeks. Tied 0-0, were told to "not play so rough" at halftime by the ref, and lost two of our players due to injury in the second half. One of the injuries was kind of spectacular - the crack when the two players came together was audible from across the field.
Personal Zen moment: one of their forwards grabbed the ball and broke away towards our utterly undefended goal, and I put on the sprint of a lifetime, knowing I couldn't possibly reach her in time but hoping I'd freak her out into passing the ball. And I did :)

Gilda arrived this morning. My mom woke up briefly and had some fruit salad with her, then went back to sleep for the rest of the day. We'll see how she's doing tomorrow, and if she has another awake day. Or even just a few awake times.
