Aug. 31st, 2004 11:02 pmChilean Judge to Question Pinochet About Murders.
Excerpt:
Pinochet's attorneys plan to use the mental health defense again in the Operation Condor case, but the strategy is seen as weaker than it used to be because Pinochet gave a lucid television interview last December.
Also, court sources have said that Pinochet was coherent earlier this month when he answered questions from another judge, who is investigating his multi-million-dollar secret bank accounts in Washington, D.C.-based Riggs Bank.
"They can't say Pinochet is lucid enough to talk about money and too crazy to answer for his crimes," Carmen Hertz, a human rights lawyer and widow of a man killed immediately after the 1973 coup, told reporters at Santiago's main courthouse.
