Can anybody explain to me what "save harmless" means? As in THE RELEASORS hereby agree to indemnify and save harmless the Releasee?

Can you tell this is for my Drafting course? It's such a joy to be told to cut through this crap and render stuff in plain English. I feel like some sort of language warrior, using my pen like a sword to slice through the ranks of the enemies of the English language: obfustication, linguistic pretentiousness, jargon, doublespeak, and plain old gibberish.
Also? LOTR is clearly eating my brain.
