OK, I'm stumped.


Can anybody explain to me what "save harmless" means? As in THE RELEASORS hereby agree to indemnify and save harmless the Releasee?

Black's points me to "hold harmless," which says "to absolve (another party) from any responsibility for damage or other liability arising from the transaction; INDEMNIFY."

So it's a case of legalspeak using four words when one would do -- because the way it's written, it reads "hereby agree to indemnify and indemnify."

Can you tell this is for my Drafting course? It's such a joy to be told to cut through this crap and render stuff in plain English. I feel like some sort of language warrior, using my pen like a sword to slice through the ranks of the enemies of the English language: obfustication, linguistic pretentiousness, jargon, doublespeak, and plain old gibberish.

Also? LOTR is clearly eating my brain.

I believe it's the equivalent of "hold harmless". But I'm just an informed layperson (yet). The cut-to-the-chase version would be "don't blame". But you knew that. :)
