Random quote of the day:

Justin is standing near the piano and tells me, out of the blue, "I opened the front door for the cat and she came prettily in. Like this," he runs his little fingers down the piano keys.

Went hiking yesterday at Murphy' Point, about an hour south of Ottawa. Met Todd and Susan and Turtle and Zane, as they drove up from Kingston, which is also about an hour away from Murphy's Point. Man, I miss them. It's no fun having to plan a trip and driving an hour to meet them, where before it was just a matter of calling and saying, "Wanna drop by for dinner?" and there they'd be.

It was a beautiful day, though, and a great hike. About 5k, I think, when we were all done. And we got to see Zane again - he's grown so much! He's even crawling at full speed, saying Nana, and showing off his two bottom teeth. Justin was completely thrilled, as he always is around babies. And he did his best to be gentle, which certainly doesn't come naturally.

Side note: one of the reasons I wish we could have another baby is that Justin would just be such a great big brother. He loves babies, and he's had such a good teacher, too :)

Got a chance to catch up with Turtle too. And more importantly, a chance for Daniel and Turtle to catch up with each other. Every time we looked back, they were dawdling behind the rest of us, chatting and giggling and showing each other neat things on the path. ::sigh:: I miss having good friends around for Daniel.

It was also good to be with Susan and Todd. We've all had a tough year this year - Chris and I haven't shared any of our tales of woe with them, because they're going through enough without having to worry about us too - but it was good to see them, spend a little time together. No deep conversation or anything - the kids wandering about and breaking in every five minutes kind of put a damper on that - but at least we were able to sort of do a brief summary of what's going on.

Then we drove home. All three boys fell fast asleep on the way back, so I got to drive for an hour, just me, my snoring boys, and Sting's Brand New Day on the highway.

Beautiful day today too. We filled the pool in the back yard and Chris has been doing lots of gardening and I've been doing a bit of sketching. We really, really, really needed this.

TC, this is all your fault. You and your "eyebrows raised in my direction."

Yeah, I'm working on Plain Sight Exception #4. God help us.
