Didn't do much today other than be with two small sick people. Justin was still not himself, and Daniel, who was going to stay home anyway, had a sore throat. We couldn't meet Monique, Noah & Oscar, didn't feel up to choir, didn't do much at all.

Except we looked at the LOTR Return of the King extra DVD feature on how they trained the stunt people and actors for fighting in general and the Battle of Helm's Deep in particular. That seemed to go over rather well :) They were particularly impressed that the guy who coordinated most of the fights for Helm's Deep was the same guy who coordinated the swordfights in The Pricess Bride, and played Darth Vader for the lightsaber duel between Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars ep IV. And I realized at that moment: my kids have some sort of cultural background. They are old enough now that we can now refer to cultural events (mostly movies) and they can actually relate them to things they already know. Neato :)

We also started reading The Magician's Nephew, which Daniel and I read a few years ago but Justin had never seen. Daniel mentioned to Justin that the guy who wrote the Narnia books was a friend of the guy who wrote The Hobbit, and again: background. Justin got a very interested look on his face, and leaned forward eagerly to take in this new bit of literature.

Other than that, we got a bit of culture shock as we drove down the Queensway on the way to drop off my Drafting assignment and passed not one but two small pickups trailed by little teeny flatbeds with one dead moose and one dead deer strapped to each flatbed.

Quote from Daniel last night as he went to bed: "I know everybody says George Bush is still the President, but I can't quite believe it."

You and me both, kiddo.
