Wrongness and Pancakes
Feb. 18th, 2006 06:32 pmOK, you know when you go to a good friend's blog, trustingly follow a link, and come across something hideously wrong, something that causes a disturbance in the Force as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in eeew, and were suddenly silenced?
The kind of thing that you simply have to share?

Here's six thousand words about this morning's ( Beaver and Cubs Pancake Breakfast )

Forgot to write, because the anecdote was washed away in a flood of bright red spurting from Chris' finger that night, that on Wednesday we rehearsed our Black History Month music with one of the choirs that will be joining us - about 30-40 high school kids, who just... wow. If we can all fit onto the stage, this is going to be an awesome concert. Just... wow.
Oh, and our director kind of... addressed the problem of TroubledSoul and herincessant whining reservations about the music we're going to be singing. Sort of.
We're supposed to sing one song with movements. Shuffling here, pointing there, waving hands and pretending to shoot into the air, that kind of thing. It's silly, but it goes with the song. Apparently many African languages have no separate word for "song" and "dance" and songs are supposed to be done with movement, because the whole thing together tells a story.
OK, fine, it'll look silly but who cares. Choir is supposed to be fun for the audience as well as for us, and I'm sure they'll get a chuckle at the sight of us all shuffling around trying to look like villagers trying to scare away a pesky bird with a pellet gun. We gamely get up and start learning the Special Song Shuffle. TroubledSoul, predictably,moans and bitches like it's going out of style voices her displeasure. Kurt finally tells the entire choir that anybody who thinks they're too good to do this... better not think they're too good to do it. And that he doesn't want to hear "I'm not doing it", "it'll look dumb", "I'm too old", yadda yadda. Also points out that regardless of what the rest of us look like, the one person on stage not moving will look incredibly stupid.
TroubledSoul did not seem impressed, and threatened to just not show up.
Sure hope she carries through.
