dairy drama queens
Apr. 2nd, 2005 01:04 pmHave decided to pop up every ten pages or so, and annoy the hell out of reach out in desperation towards my flist.
I've just finished reading about a New Zealand Milk Board redoing zoning for milk and/or cream from local dairy farmers. I believe this is about the twelfth milk-related case so far in this course. Either milk regulation is an unexpectedly volatile topic, or the editors of my text have a disturbing fascination with milk-related drama.
Can anybody think of some good fic to keep me from dying of boredom here?
Fave fandoms:
... but I will read just about anything, at this point. I'm not proud.

Apr. 2nd, 2005 02:19 pm::popping up again:: I'm going Latin-happy, in a desperate attempt to make AdminLaw suck slightly less.
For anybody who remembers, a few days ago I posted the following lyrics to one of my choir songs and asked if anyone knew what they meant and why they were important in the history of music:
Ut queant laxis, Resonare fibris, Mira gestorum, Famuli tuorum, Solve polluti, Labii reatum, Sancte Iohannes, by Paolo Diacono (ca 720-299) as a hymn to Saint John the Baptist.
siliconivy got it right, though my copy had something like "absolve their sins." It means "So that Your servants may sing at the top of their voices the wonders of Your Acts, and absolve the fault from their stained lips, St. John."
And it's important to music because if you look at the red syllables and disregard the wrongness of the first word and the absence of the seventh, you get [do] re mi fa sol la [ti] [do]. So if you ever wondered where those came from? Wonder nae more.

And now, Admin-related Latinisms:

And now, Admin-related Latinisms:
- Delegatus Non Potest Delegare: "A delegate may not redelegate." Very important maxim in Administrative law. Especially since it regularly gets broken with gleeful abandon
- Audi Alteram Partem: "Hear the other side", or "he who decides must hear." Except when he doesn't want to.
- Nemo Judex In Sua Causa: No one should be a judge in his own cause. Unless he wants to be.
- Senex MacDonald Habeat Fundum, E-I-E-I-O: Damn, I wish that was in my text. We certainly deal with enough of farm-related crap.
::plunging back down::
No point to this entry - just taking a breather from Admin. I just finished reading about a welfare board that would/wouldn't reimburse a welfare recipient for bandages and dressings, and eventually ended up being spanked by the Supremes for it. Although I think in the end the Supremes decided the board was right. I can't even tell who wins these damn things any more.

Apr. 2nd, 2005 09:45 pmDamn. I thought I had, like, 10 posts today or something. Instead, this is only my seventh. Ah well, the night is still young :)
Kidding. Am soon going to bed. Mydismal swamp of legal torture Admin reading is done for the day, and we have about 6 hours worth of taped TV shows to watch, which should be good because that way we won't have to talk. Talking has not worked out real well today; we're both exhausted and irritable and that doesn't make for happy warm fuzzies.
A propos of my AdminLaw readings (and not the paragraph above at all) somebody once pointed out that it was really interesting how almost invariably, the words "with all due respect" are followed by words that demonstrate no respect whatsoever. Ever notice that?
