  • OK, too late for Easter, but I still think this is awfully cute:

    http://www.livejournal.com/users/belle_acirema/50245.html#cutid1

  • These are other people's icons, but I have no idea whose, and it's really upsetting me, because I'd love to give credit for them:

BTW, how many people out there know what the snowglobe icon means?

  • And, for the curious, first lines redux )

  • Second draft almost done. Really dragging my ass on this one. As clearly evidenced by my time-wasting on lj.

OK, see, the thing with following what look like dreadful links, is that once in a while you get something spectacularly vile that makes you swear you will never follow one again... but then you forget the godawful ones, remember the funny ones, and tentatively follow the next one you see after the amnesia sets in.

And you hit one howler after another after another - execrably bad, but freaking hysterical in their badness. And you coast merrily along, with ridiculously purple prose and way off (like, in another universe) characterizations and diction that would make the original author weep ("For sure!" said Legolas!) and plot twists that weren't meant to be plot twists at all (what the... when did Merry get there?) and it's just hilarious, and a great essay break, and then...

::SMACK::

... and suddenly you're back in hideous where-can-I-find-an-eyeball-scraper fic.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaa......

English skilz totaly degenearting. I hate this damn paper, I hate papers in general, I hate finding quotes like this:

America will stand with the allies of freedom to support democratic movements in the Middle East and beyond, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world.

The United States has no right, no desire, and no intention to impose our form of government on anyone else. That is one of the main differences between us and our enemies. They seek to impose and expand an empire of oppression, in which a tiny group of brutal, self-appointed rulers control every aspect of every life. Our aim is to build and preserve a community of free and independent nations, with governments that answer to their citizens, and reflect their own cultures. And because democracies respect their own people and their neighbors, the advance of freedom will lead to peace.

Inspiring, no? Except it Dubya's state of the union from this year. Damn.

On a mildly amusing note, last night (this morning, whatever) I typed "globalisation and democracy" into google, hit "I'm feeling lucky", and realized it probably wouldn't do me any good to plagiarize what I got and submit that as my paper. Because this is what I got:

Well thank you Bob, that was quite wonderful, and we did have a good talk, it was sober, and the ocean was good, and I haven't won any prizes tonight but I nevertheless want to thank a few people -

Well, at least I'm into the home stretch now. My paper is more black than anything else. My colour coding: red is 'material to be written', blue is 'written but not tweaked', black is 'ready for final edit'. So, in the black = good thing.

I just wish it was all black and handed in and done and off my plate.

::checks to see whether any of it has written itself while I've been lj-ing::

Nope. Damn.
