Mother's Day

I have just been fed five courses of pancakes, waffles and homemade bread with maple butter and nutella. Chris had the kids running up and down the stairs with food and cards and presents and kisses and hugs. They're so damn cute.

I wish I wasn't motherless myself, today. I wish my mom had lived to see the kids grow up. Last night I thought of her and wished so much that I could tell her about what was going on in my life, about my courses, taking Daniel out of school next year, Justin being back in ballet, writing again, even doing badly on my winter term courses and Constitutional exam. About ninja_kat, and Chris' work, and my old high school closing down, and getting together with four high school friends. About the new Pope and the possible Canadian election looming. About my choir and learning to play the guitar.

I'm so damn lucky to have the kids and Chris here to make this a wonderful day instead of a day full of sadness and introspection. I think I'll spend the day feeling lucky to have them instead of missing my mom. It's a total cliche to say this, but I know that's what she would have wanted.

Mother's Day redux

Pretty good day overall.

Flew our kite on the mesa, much to the kids' delight. It's so wonderful to live a three-minute walk away from a forest, sledding hill, and large open field. I took a couple of pictures, but unfortunately you can't see the other people who were up there flying their kites. Trust me, it was cool :)

ninja_kat came over for a good long visit and got me all enthused about guitar playing and oh, my, my fingers are numb. And will doubtless become number as I go through most of the music she brought over tomorrow.

Went to the cemetery by myself. There were a lot of people there, no surprise.
