It's bloody early (or late). Ugh.
- Date last night. Nice meal, nice time, talked about Buddhism and the way we fight. And... too much else to write about. It's buzzing up there, though.
- How did people ever manage before plastic? My one and only credit card has expired and I think I tossed out the new one, because Mastercard sends me invitations/entreaties/bribes/pathetic pleas to convert all of my (nonexistent) other cards to theirs every other day and I had stopped opening anything that's not an account statement. So I have no credit card. So I've been using my bank card, but it's about twelve years old so it's stopped working on most Interac machines.
I've been carrying and using cash. You know, papers and bits of metal. How very retro. - Daniel is having a friend come visit today. I found out about it last night. The nice thing about having older kids is they have their own social life and skills, and have mastered things like using the phone and setting up playdates. The not so nice thing is, you no longer have complete control over their social calendar. Rather inconvenient, sometimes.
- Went to a Spanish bookstore and bought what looks like a really good set of Spanish books for young kids. Added them to the space I'm setting up for home schooling stuff. We're already doing a lot, but it feels odd to think that in less than a month it'll be for real, because Justin and Daniel's friends will be going back to school, but Daniel will not.
- Somebody posted an entry saying that somebody else was trying to set up an archive of Harry Potter fanart. Can't for the life of me remember who, though. Sound familiar to anybody?
I must say I've never had any interest in fanart, and now I think now I know why. It's because the fandoms I've previously been part of (eg Star Trek, X-Files, Law & Order) were all based on visuals; they were TV shows long before anybody set pen to paper. So Kirk, Spock, Mulder, Scully, Jack, Lennie, etc can really only be drawn to resemble Nimoy, Shatner, et al. And most of the time, they're not quite right - nose a bit too large, eyes a bit too wide, etc, so they don't do much for me because they're 'wrong'.
Harry Potter was a book first, though. So the art that bears no resemblance to Rickman, Radcliff, et al (and that's most of the art, actually) is just A-OK by me. I realized that when I remembered that I love Lord of the Rings art too, even though, for example, Alan Lee's paintings don't depend on the movies at all. Although the movies draw from his art, as he was conceptual designer for the movies. - Update on the plane crash, Canada Plane Crash Has Textbook Evacuation. Also: you learn something new every day. Yesterday I learned that planes are built to be evacuated within 90 seconds of a crash. Whoa.
- Must get computers fixed. It all goes back to how Chris and I fight. And it would take too long to explain how.
