I live under a rock, really.

Lots of stuff happens in the outside world that just sorta passes me by. I know about tsunamis and Iraq and the death of Peter Jennings, but for the longest time I honestly thought Paris Hilton was a hotel and Bennifer was probably a golfer, since I'd never seen a movie advertised starring "Bennifer" so he/she probably wasn't a movie star. I also spent about half my time watching "Cheaper By The Dozen" saying, "So that's Hilary Duff? Huh. She's pretty big, isn't she? I know I've heard her name somewhere."

Same with the internet/lj. I know a few people, read my flist, occasionally do a friends/friends thing, but overall, drama completely passes me by. I generally hear about "something huge" days after it's already gone by, when people are commenting on the aftermath. It's kind of like emerging from your basement from a blissfully restful nap after a tornado has gone by and wondering why your neighbours are all gathered outside picking up the copious amounts of trash all over the street.

So today I idly followed a cryptic link from dragonduerme's lj, about cousinjean's post requesting donations for her fic... and OMG. I'm literally speechless. Both at the original request and at the violent, vehement and vocal reaction to it.

Going to go do something fluffy now. And non-controversial. Like, say, debating gay marriage and abortion at a fundamentalist Christian site. Cause people don't nearly nearly as worked up about that.
