ciroccoj: (prettiest)
Damn. Just when Law Review reading was starting to make me despair, just when I was starting to wonder if all we'd ever read were dubiously researched, minimally sourced, infuriatingly disorganized and embarassingly errored (I love inventing verbs) articles, I wearily flip to the last one, start reading... and enter a state of bliss. Well researched. Relevant. Persuasive. Clearly organized. Eloquently presented.

Thank you, anonymous author. You just made my day.

I believe I got this one from [livejournal.com profile] cabenson, though it's been doing the rounds.

LJ Interests meme results

  1. children:
I have two of them. Wanted to be a parent every since I can remember. I'm also interested in children's issues, their development, their perceptions, etc etc.

I'm also interested in non-child-related life choices, because while I love the little darlings, I can certainly understand why some people might not. And it frankly puzles me that more people don't choose to be child-free.

  2. computers:
BAH in Computing Science (and History). B.Ed in grades 7-12 Computers (and History). Spent four years teaching high school computers. I like 'em.

I'm also quite stunningly clueless about some aspects of computer knowledge. Like, on a good day I can barely change a printer cartridge.

  3. drawing:
I come from a long and illustrious (pun intended) line of stick-figure drawers. I always puzzled my parents, who put me in art classes every weekend for years. I loved it.

Would like to also paint, use charcoal, watercolour, etc, but I have control issues. And no other medium is as forgiving as a good old H2 pencil with eraser stuck to the end.

  4. fanfiction:
Remember those Star Trek Magazine compendiums at the library? Those were my first fanfics. Discovered the online version during the heyday of The X-Files. Drifted away for a few years, then rediscovered it when I got into Law & Order. This time I joined into the madness and spewed forth a frightening mountain of verbiage over a couple of years. The spewing slowed down to an occasional spit-up, then eventually dried up.

Rediscovered fanfic when I got into the Harry Potter fandom. So far I've written a bit, and have ideas about a few more stories and would like to enter the Veritaserum fanfic contest... but I've also got law school, home schooling, and Chris' final year of residency, so... probably not.

  5. harry potter:
Read the books. Liked them. Saw the movies. Smiled. Heard there was fanfic. Was not interested.

But [livejournal.com profile] bear and [livejournal.com profile] crack_van kept waving shiny little links at me, and one day I followed one too many... and there I was, hook, line and sinker. And here I still am.

And it does not help that my children are at an age where they want Harry Potter movies every other day. Even if I did want to de-Potterify my life, it would be like trying to quit smoking while working at a bingo hall.

  6. law:
    I'm in law school!

  7. marriage:
    I'm married!

  8. prison:
Remember those four years teaching high school computers? That was almost exclusively done in federal prisons in and around Kingston, Ontario. I did stints at Joyceville, Collins Bay, Millhaven, etc etc. My longest sentences were at Kingston Penitentiary (high security, 7 months), and Bath Institution (Low Medium, 3 years).

The hilarious thing was, they kept letting me out at the end of the day. Silly trusting fools. I did get two blades confiscated by Security, though.

... OK they were butter knives.

  9. socialism:
I'm originally from Chile. Father left the country rather abruptly in 1973. I also live in Canada, and have been known to vote NDP. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need" seems like a sane principle of government to me.

  10. x-files:
Once upon a time I could've told you a basic plot summary for every single X-File ep ever aired, and probably spouted a few Mulderisms from each one too. Up to about Season 7. That's around when Mulder left and my interest started to wane despite the fact that I really like both Doggett and Reyes and adored the fact that Skinner was now on the opening credits.

It was just... you know. Butt Genie and all that. I still tuned in for the series finale though.

Oh! And we just bought Season 5 a few weeks ago, and have recently blissed out on Bad Blood and Unusual Suspects. ::happysigh::
