Randomosity
Jul. 6th, 2007 03:02 pm- Went strawberry picking on Monday and got four tubs of strawberries. We were starting to think we'd gotten too much, but are now almost all done with them. We've had strawberry bread, strawberry gallette (sp?), strawberry Julius, strawberry smoothies, strawberry jam, and today we will have strawberry tiramisu. It's fiber, fiber, everywhere.
Wait - do strawberries have fiber? - Putting away our chess set today while our friends Marie & her kids visit, I tell my kids off for losing so many parts of the pieces. "I only had them out for a few minutes yesterday, and we were talking about baseball the entire time, except for the five minutes I left you so that I could print out that poem!! How could you have lost two arms and three heads in five minutes?!"
Marie looks puzzled, so I explain. "I used them to demonstrate the rules, so that they could understand Casey At the Bat. We're doing poetry."
"So... you used Lego chess pieces, in order to teach your kids about baseball, so that you could teach them poetry?"
"Um, yeah, pretty much."
"Yeah, you're a home schooler all right." - Old one, but I hadn't heard it: "Yesterday President Bush came out against human cloning. If anyone knows how much trouble twins can get into, it's President Bush." -Jay Leno
- My friend Winnie has three daughters, ages 8, 5 and 3. They look amazingly similar to one another. She says she dresses them up alike when they're going out somewhere with large crowds, because in case one of them gets lost, she wants to be able to say, "I'm missing my little girl. She looks just like this one, but smaller/bigger." I thought she was just repeating an old Stephen Wright joke, but she says she has actually done it at least twice, and it worked.
- My boys and Marie's friends have been making up Pokemons. They made Velociraptormon, Reptilimon and (Justin's creation) Sushimon.
- Battle at Kruger Park:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU8DDYz68kM - Daniel's so big. Today he told Marie about Monicagate. Well... part of Monicagate. He doesn't know any of the dress-related bits. Sure wish I didn't.
- We're all done with Geography, and are now doing History. We did the History of the World last week (two-day trip through the Timechart History of the World, and watching The Story of English.) It's interesting. I know quite a bit about history, it appears. And it seems Daniel does too - there were several parts where he was able to link what we were talking about to something we'd seen/done in the past. Particularly songs. We talked about WWI and he said, "That's Sting's song, The Children's Crusade!" Talked about the diaspora from Ireland and Scotland coming to Canada. "That's The Old Sod!" Talked about the Hudson's Bay company and explorations. "That's The Northwest Passage!"
(Hm. How annoying. Every single copy of the lyrics to The Old Sod that I could find had the exact same errors in them. Looks like somebody wrote up the lyrics, didn't bother to verify that they were accurate, and then posted them everywhere he could reach. ARG!) - Chris finally ordered the last Harry Potter book for me yesterday. Yay! I was feeling like a bad fan because I hadn't done it yet, but obviously wasn't feeling bad enough to do it myself. Now I have to decide whether I'll be going online in the last few days before it comes out. I'm not terribly concerned that my flist will post spoilers, but I am afraid my regular "HornyChx Lookin For U" spam will turn into messages from vol@demort_kills_harry.com, or dumbledorelives@harrymarrieshermione.ca.
Hm... my love for the Potterworld, versus myaddiction toaffection for the internet. Decisions, decisions.
