1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Meet my sister and brother.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Huh. I don't appear to have made any last year. That's probably wise, as I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have kept them.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I can remember.
ETA: Because I'm quite clearly an idiot. [livejournal.com profile] ladystarstruck had a baby boy this year, a few weeks after we visited with her!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My uncle Hans. I hadn't seen him in at least twenty years, and he'd been ill and non compos mentis for the last ten, but I still feel bad for my aunt and cousins.

5. What countries did you visit?
The US, twice: Glacier National Park in August, and Orlando in December.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A job. A paying job, that is. I've got plenty of the other kind ;)

7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
November 4. The US Election. I have even forgotten the date of the Canadian one, which is sad.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Passing the Bar Exam, parts 1 & 2.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not working harder to get a job.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not that I can remember.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Um... a new car?

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
The 61-63% of Americans who voted and the 53% of those who voted the way I liked :)

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
It's mostly all under f-lock. Oh, and also the husbands in two marriages that dissolved this year.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food shelter transportation education exercise vacation charity/environmental causes. Where else could it go?

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The 2008 Election, and our trips to BC/Alberta and Orlando.
I tried to get excited about our own election. I really did. Failed miserably :(

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Big Fat Road Manager, by the Arrogant Worms.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Probably sadder. It was a difficult year, family-wise.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter. ::sigh::
iii. richer or poorer? Richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Not much, actually. I do wish I'd kept the house cleaner, but we had pretty healthy levels of exercise, studying, eating, and socializing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Wasted time on the computer and worrying about stuff that I have no control over. F-lock again.

20. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Already there :)

21. How many one-night stands?
None, for the thirty-eigth year in a row :D :D

22. What was your favorite TV program?
Of the current crop, this is a very easy question to answer. The only show we watched that wasn't cancelled at least four years ago was Torchwood.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hate is too strong a word. "Think far less of" is probably more accurate.

24. What was the best book you read?
His Dark Materials, AKA Atheism For Kids (technically, three books). Can't quite believe Pullman has never been lynched. And I'm really wondering wtf is up with all the nutbars who froth at the mouth over JK Rowling, while ignoring Pullman.

25. What was your greatest musical (re)discovery?
Zamfir.

26. What did you want and get?
Can't think of anything I wanted all that much. Oh right! I wanted to pass the Bar! And I did!

27. What did you want and not get?
A job.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Wall-E :D :D :D

29. What did you do on your birthday?
Had dinner at the Crystal Palace in Disney World. Can't beat that :)

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having a job.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Comfortable.

32. What kept you sane?
Probably Chris and the kids.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I don't do celebrities much, sorry. I would say Obama, but, much as I like the guy and much as I'm thrilled he won, he's not exactly at hero-worship level for me.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?
The environment, and Proposition 8.

35. Who did you miss?
My mom.

36. Who was the best new person you met?
My little sister Emma :)

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008?
"You are not responsible for what other people choose to believe about you." Not sure I learned it, but I sure repeated it to myself enough times that I hope some of it may have soaked through.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I Can Take the Weight, by Ozzy Osbourne.
