"Are you trying to insult me?"
Jan. 31st, 2011 06:50 pmThat was Justin's reply to a classmate who called him a faggot.
Daniel's response to same insult: "So... what, now I'm a bundle of sticks used to start a fire?"
Justin told a teacher, who apparently "took it seriously" though it's unclear what that means. Daniel didn't tell a teacher.
I'm glad it didn't bug them, and it's only one of many insults they've received at school, not the main one used. On the other hand... it's one of many insults they've received at school :(
Plus, Daniel says he didn't tell a teacher because he had just heard about the results of a survey done the year before at his school. To wit:
Q: How often do you use homophobic comments?
7th grade boys that say 'Never': 68% or so
8th grade boys saying never: 47%
8th grade boys who say 'Once or twice a day': 20%
Apparently grade 8 boys have the lowest rate of "nevers" in the school. Still. ::sigh::
