Yes, I'm well aware that it's Saturday :)

Can't really call yesterday Homeschooling Friday, because Daniel was at school until lunch time. Still, we did get some stuff done - namely, choir.

And I'm actually really pleased with how Daniel's doing at choir. We've been learning some music notation on our own (quarter notes, half-notes, rests, etc) so Daniel can now follow the music, roughly. Yesterday he spent almost the entire practice actually singing and looking at the music, and didn't ask for his D&D Player's Handbook at all. He did start to get a little bored near the end, as we repeated the tricky parts of Don't Worry Be Happy for the millionth time, but hey. Everyone gets bored by that kind of repetition.

I'm really, really pleased that he seems to be getting into the spirit of choir. It's something I always wanted to share with my kids, but neither one of them seemed terribly interested, so I had pretty much let go of that particular dream. Seeing Daniel enjoying singing and music is like an unexpected gift. I hope it continues, but if it doesn't... ::shrug:: c'est la vie. I'll just enjoy this while I can :)

So that's pretty much all we did wrt home schooling. The rest of our time was spent trying to get some pointless errands done. Luckily, the errands contained a 'spontaneous teachable moment' theme - every place we went to happened to be right next to an ethnic food store. So we went in and looked around. We saw a Middle Eastern store (bought sesame snaps), a mediterranean store (bought baklava) and an Eastern European store (bought bizarre Russian cookies). I think Daniel liked that part :)

Overall, I don't think I liked the half-day thing, but I'll have to ask Daniel what he thought, and see where we go from there.
