Damn. Apparently, there were northern lights in Ottawa just now. I totally missed the show.

Doh. I've only ever seen northern lights once, in 1984 in Chicoutimi, and I was told it was a rather lame display. Although I thought it was pretty neat.

Bummer.

In other news, the boys are now in bed, I exercised remarkable self-restraint all day in not giving Justin back to the pack of feral cats and dogs who must have raised him, I'm done with the editing and citation portion of my work and am now in the home stretch of dotting i's and crossing t's, Laine can take Daniel tomorrow after all, and I hope to get to bed in time to sleep more tonight than the miserable 3 hours I got yesterday.

I know it isn't really polite

but I'll Woohoo! your parenting situation all the same:
the pack of feral cats and dogs who must have raised him

Because I have a wild man myself, as you know. And it really does wonders to know that I'm not the only one. It often feels that way. But everynow and then I catch a glimpse of my life in yours and it feels good.

Yeeah, it's a definite case of misery loves company. While I'm never _happy_ that Tias challenges you in his own ways too, I also get a feeling of Whew, maybe Justin's not a horrible aberration after all. Just a good kid at heart who can be rather trying, as other kids are. And my frustration doesn't mean I'm a bad mother - just a human one, who gets frustrated just like other moms of trying children.

It's like a little bit of a second wind, to reenergize me in the task of surviving his temperament and trying to get him to be just a liittle more civilised :)

Look Up Again tonight

From my email this morning:

"Space Weather News for Nov. 7, 2004
http://spaceweather.com

Big sunspot 696 unleashed an X-class solar flare on Sunday, Nov. 7th, and probably hurled another coronal mass ejection (CME) toward Earth. Solar wind conditions are favorable for a geomagnetic storm now (late Nov. 7th) and may become even more so when the CME arrives. Sky watchers: be alert for auroras on Nov. 7th, 8th and 9th. The best time to look is usually around local midnight."

So keep looking up the next few nights. They were quite something around here last night. It was the first time the kids had seen them, after years of viewing my dad's awe-inspiring photographs of them. They were really excited (when they weren't shivering).
