Felt like death yesterday, and spent most of the day in bed. Occasionally I would venture out to answer the phone, which rang about 18 million times and about half of those times was just goddamn machines calling to let me know about exciting travel locations or chimney cleaning services. Nearly always felt like losing the lunch I hadn't been able to eat after getting up. Not fun.

Today I'm working on my ADR essay, doing all my research from home. All of it! I'm so thrilled.

When Daniel was very small, he used to tell us "I'm so happy at you!" when we did something he liked. Today I said it to HeinOnline, which has become my new best friend, giving me access to thousands of law journals from Canada and the US from my cosy little study. Wheeee!!!

In other news, Chris bought the boys their Christmas presents, which they've been covetting at Fandom II since summer: Cthulhu and Deep One plushies. They're incredibly cute, and have the following quotes on their tags:

Cthulhu: In darkest night, in brightest day, no good shall escape his sight. For those who worship good's light, Beware his power, the Elder's might!

Deep One: They hopped irregularly, sometimes on two legs and sometimes on four. Their croaking, baying voices, clearly used for articulate speech, held all the dark shades of expression which their staring faces lacked.

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, quick explanation: The term "Cthulhu Mythos" is used to describe the vast, mysterious world of gruesome creatures, sinister locations, and terrifying ancient civilizations in which numerous pieces of horror fiction are based. Encompassing science fiction, fantasy, and all things macabre, the Cthulhu Mythos is a constantly evolving collection of tales delving into every aspect of fear.

It originates from the works of H. P. Lovecraft, although many stories have expanded on his concepts greatly to create incredibly diverse scenarios.

Chris used to play Call of Cthulhu, a role-playing game based on Lovecraft's stuff. Really fun game; you were pretty much doomed to be killed or go insane, and the challenge was to get through as much of the game as you could before either of those things happened. As the game went on, you lost more and more Sanity Points and were told to act more and more bizarrely by the Game Master ("You are now nervous around trees. Avoid forests." "You are now terrified of trees. Stay in the house." "You are now petrified by things that have anything to do with trees. Go into the carpeted living room and stay away from hardwood floors, walls, stairs, and furniture.")

The boys want to play Call, but they're way too young. Not too young to listen to spooky stories, though, and look at some of the materials like the trading game cards and plushies :)

I wonder if Mrs. I would approve?

I seriously doubt Mrs I would

but then again I explained the Christian concept of God and the end of the world to a kid by saying God was the Gamemaster, he had created the world and everything in it, so if he decided to let things happen a certain way, well that was OK he created everything, and according to Christians at some point God would destroy the world and only people who agree that God's the gamemaster will get to go play in the next world that God creates. I'm pretty sure my Christian family members would be up in arms for my using Dungeons and Dragons to explain their faith, but what the hey.

... actually, I was being facetious. I'm sure Mrs. I. would have a heart attack.

Nice analogy with D&D though :)

*shriek* Okay, there is absolutely NO END to my amusement at the fact that Cthulu's tag saying is a little riff on the Green Lantern oath. *gleeee* (I think the actual one goes, "In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight! Something something something something, beware my power, green lantern's light!"

I'm a bad fangirl.
